Utah Jazz Add Stylish Forward to Roster

Utah Jazz Pick Georgia’s Asa Newell in Latest NBA Mock Draft After Lottery Results

In the most recent NBA mock draft following the NBA lottery, the Utah Jazz have chosen Georgia forward Asa Newell.

Standing 6’11”, Newell, a forward from the University of Georgia, has officially declared for the 2025 NBA Draft. He has quickly become one of the most intriguing prospects in this class.

After an impressive season with the Georgia Bulldogs, Newell is widely viewed as a potential NBA lottery pick, with many experts forecasting he could be selected within the top 10 picks. His blend of size, skill, and two-way potential has firmly placed him in the conversation for a high selection.

However, ESPN’s latest mock draft does not project Newell as a lottery pick this year. Instead, they have him going 21st overall to the Utah Jazz. Here’s how they assess Newell as a prospect:

“Newell’s pre-college resume and productivity make him an intriguing developmental pick. He has the size, motor, and mobility to be effective, but he will need to refine his offensive skills and overall basketball awareness to thrive in the NBA. Teams will be interested to see how his perimeter skills develop in workout settings, as he likely profiles best as a power forward in the long run. For that transition, he’ll need to confidently shoot from outside and handle the ball. He was highly regarded out of high school and had a strong season at Georgia, making him more of a developmental prospect for a team that doesn’t need immediate contributions. — Jeremy Woo”

Impressive Play at Georgia

At Georgia, Newell demonstrated why he’s considered one of the top forward prospects in the country. During his last season, he averaged 15.4 points and 7 rebounds per game while showing off his shooting touch and versatility in scoring from various areas of the floor.

His offensive game includes the ability to knock down three-pointers, drive to the basket, and finish in transition. With solid footwork and a high basketball IQ, Newell is effective both in the post and on the perimeter. At 6’11”, he offers rare flexibility for a player of his size, able to contribute as a scorer, slasher, or playmaker for others.

Defensively, Newell’s physical attributes stand out. His length and agility allow him to switch across multiple positions and guard forwards, wings, and even smaller guards in pick-and-roll scenarios. This versatility has led to comparisons with some of the NBA’s top defenders.
