Broncos Hire Former Patriots Executive for Front Office Role
The Denver Broncos have filled an important position in their front office by hiring Cam Williams, a former executive from the New England Patriots, as their new co-director of player personnel, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Although the move has yet to be officially announced, 9NEWS insider Mike Klis confirmed the hire, noting that Williams will work alongside Reed Burchkhardt, the Broncos’ current director of player personnel, under general manager George Paton.
Williams joins the Broncos after spending nearly ten years with the Patriots. He started as a scouting assistant in 2016 and was later promoted to director of college scouting in 2022. Klis reported that Williams’ contract with the Patriots ended after last month’s NFL Draft, and it seems he was drawn to the Broncos by a chance to take on a larger role.
Williams’ arrival is one of the few additions to the Broncos’ executive team, which saw several departures this offseason. Among those who left were assistant general manager Darren Mougey (who became the Jets’ GM), VP of football operations/compliance Mark Thewes (who joined the Raiders as senior VP of football operations/strategy), national scout Rob Paton (who moved to the Jets as co-director of player personnel), and senior personnel executive David Shaw (who became the Lions’ passing game coordinator).
Additionally, former college scouting director Brian Stark was poached by the Las Vegas Raiders just days after the 2025 Draft concluded.
Head coach Sean Payton’s coaching staff also experienced significant turnover, with tight ends coach Declan Doyle moving to Chicago, passing game coordinator John Morton heading to Detroit, and special teams assistant Chris Banjo joining the Jets.
Paton acknowledged the staff changes in his post-draft press conference, stating, “It all started right after the season. Sean lost coaches, I lost scouts, and others left for new opportunities. Everyone had to step up, whether on the coaching side, personnel, or medical. It was a true team effort—everyone worked together, even if they didn’t always agree. We really came together for the draft process, and I’m grateful for everyone’s extra effort. We were short-handed, but I believe we made some solid improvements as a football team.”
