Flyers Close to Finalizing Deal to Hire Rick Tocchet as Next Head Coach
Following a disappointing 2025 season, the Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly close to naming Rick Tocchet as their next head coach. According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, while the deal isn’t officially complete yet, it’s heading in that direction.
Tocchet, 61, had a notable playing career with the Flyers, spending parts of 11 seasons with the team from 1985 to 2002 as a right wing.
Most recently, Tocchet served as head coach of the Vancouver Canucks from 2023 to 2025. Under his leadership, the Canucks posted an impressive 50-23-9 record in 2024, but Tocchet was let go after the team’s performance declined in 2025.
Deal is still not finalized yet but Flyers are zeroing in on hiring Rick Tocchet as head coach. Again, still not quite done yet. But headed in that direction. Could be finalized later today or tomorrow.

The Flyers, who have missed the playoffs since 2020, posted a 97-107-33 record during John Tortorella’s three seasons as head coach, finishing 33-39-10 this year after a slight improvement in 2024.
