The Pitt basketball team landed a surprise commitment from a 2025 point guard from Michigan
The Pitt basketball program made a surprise splash Thursday night with the late addition of 2025 point guard Macari Moore. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect from Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is rated as a three-star recruit.
Moore was previously committed to Iowa State for a full year before decommitting in March. During his recruitment, he also picked up an offer from Louisville and drew interest from several programs in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).
Following the announcement of his commitment, Pitt confirmed Moore’s addition via a press release.
“Macari is a fierce competitor who has consistently demonstrated winning qualities throughout his high school and AAU career,” said head coach Jeff Capel. “He brings an aggressive approach on both ends of the court and is known for his relentless work ethic. He thrives as a downhill attacker, capable of creating for himself and others, and has also shown the ability to hit shots from beyond the arc. He’s a great addition to our backcourt, and we’re excited about his future here at Pitt.”
As a senior at Huron High, Moore helped lead his team to a 22-5 record. He earned Division 1 all-state honors from the Michigan Sports Writers and was a finalist for the prestigious Mr. Basketball award. He averaged 19 points, six assists, and six rebounds per game in the 2024–25 season.
Moore becomes the fourth member of Pitt’s 2025 recruiting class, joining four-star guard Omari Witherspoon and international standouts Henry Lau and Kieran Mullen.
In total, Moore marks the eighth newcomer for the Panthers this offseason. In addition to the four high school recruits, Pitt added four players from the transfer portal.
The Panthers now have 12 scholarship players locked in for the 2025–26 season. Returners Papa Amadou Kante, Cam Corhen, Brandin Cummings, and Amdy Ndayie are expected to be key contributors on a team filled with new talent.
Pitt remains active in recruiting, still targeting a few more 2025 prospects and keeping an eye on the transfer portal. However, the roster is nearly set, with space for perhaps one or two more additions before the season tips off.
