Braves Claim Relief Pitcher Kevin Herget from Mets
The Atlanta Braves announced on Sunday that they have claimed right-handed reliever Kevin Herget off waivers from the New York Mets, immediately optioning him to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Herget had been designated for assignment by the Mets on Thursday.
The 34-year-old righty made one appearance for the Mets this season, pitching two innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks, while recording a strikeout.
Herget made his MLB debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2022 and has since played for the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers. Across 25 career major league appearances, he holds a 4.63 ERA.
This move adds depth to the Braves’ bullpen, with Herget not currently on the 40-man roster. While he will likely spend most of his time in the minors, given the bullpen instability at times this season, there is always a chance he could get called up.
