Wilson Weber’s red-hot finish to the regular season has catapulted him into the spotlight for college baseball’s most prestigious honor at his position.
On Monday, the Oregon State senior was named a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award, which recognizes the nation’s top collegiate catcher. He’s one of 13 standouts on the list.
A senior from Gresham, Weber has become a key leader for the Beavers, both vocally and with his performance. In May alone, he hit .381 (16-for-42) with six home runs, three doubles, 22 RBIs, and 11 runs scored—cementing his spot in the heart of the OSU batting order.
His strong finish pushed his season numbers to career highs: a .332 average, 10 home runs, 11 doubles, 49 RBIs, and 38 runs. Defensively, Weber has been a steady presence behind the plate, appearing in 52 of the team’s 54 games (49 starts), committing only two errors for a .996 fielding percentage. He’s also thrown out 15 attempted base stealers while helping anchor a defense that ranks sixth nationally with a .982 fielding mark.
The semifinalist group features top talent like Cal Poly’s Jack Collins, Texas’ Rylan Galvan, Arizona’s Adonys Guzman, Florida’s Luke Heyman, Georgia Tech’s Vahn Lackey, and North Carolina’s Luke Stevenson. Notably, Weber is the only senior among them.
He aims to become just the second Oregon State catcher to take home the award, following Adley Rutschman in 2019—who went on to be the No. 1 overall MLB draft pick and a Major League All-Star.
The award, decided by votes from Division I head coaches and communications representatives, will be narrowed to three finalists on June 5. Those finalists will be invited to Wichita, Kansas, for a ceremony on June 26, when the winner will be announced.
