PITTSBURGH — The Pitt Panthers now know when one of the top basketball prospects will announce his college decision.
Braydon Hawthorne, a four-star recruit in the 2026 class, is set to reveal his commitment on May 20 at 7:00 p.m. via the 247Sports YouTube Channel, per Travis Branham.
Hawthorne will choose from five finalists: Pitt, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke, and Kentucky.

Braydon Hawthorne, a native of Beckley, W.Va., played his high school basketball at powerhouse Huntington Prep in Huntington, W.Va.
He initially committed to West Virginia on October 14, 2024—just 10 days after receiving an offer—and signed his National Letter of Intent a month later. However, Hawthorne reopened his recruitment on March 21 following the departure of Mountaineers head coach Darian DeVries, who left after one season to take over at Indiana.
Pitt hosted Hawthorne for an official visit on April 29, earning a spot among his final six schools.
He’s already taken official visits to Kentucky (April 16), Virginia Tech (April 18), met with West Virginia’s new coaching staff, and visited Duke on May 2.
Standing 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot-3 wingspan, Hawthorne excels defensively with his ability to block shots, grab rebounds, and force turnovers. He’s also explosive and highly athletic, often finishing plays with powerful dunks and alley-oops. While he’ll shoot from beyond the arc occasionally, his strongest asset is attacking the basket and finishing through contact.

Braydon Hawthorne is a consensus four-star prospect and the top-ranked player in West Virginia for the Class of 2025. He’s ranked No. 33 overall and the No. 10 small forward nationally by 247Sports, No. 35 overall and No. 9 at his position by On3, and No. 81 in the country and the 23rd-best small forward by ESPN.
Pitt’s 2025 recruiting class currently includes three players: four-star guard Omari Witherspoon from St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C., who has signed his National Letter of Intent; three-star center Kieran Mullen from Vancouver, who played at St. Thomas More High School in Oakdale, Conn.; and forward Henry Lau, an international recruit from Sydney, Australia.
