Proposed Panthers-Packers Deal Would Make Carolina’s CB Room Unmatched

Proposed Panthers-Packers Trade Could Create NFL’s Top Cornerback Duo

A potential trade could make the Carolina Panthers’ cornerback group the best in the league.

Carolina already has a strong cornerback duo with Jaycee Horn, who has been excellent when healthy, and Mike Jackson, who proved to be a great addition after a somewhat overlooked trade last year. With both players returning in 2025, the Panthers’ secondary looks promising.

However, according to Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports, the Panthers should consider adding a disgruntled star cornerback to the mix: Jaire Alexander. A recent report suggested the Los Angeles Chargers might be interested in Alexander, and Palacios believes Carolina should try to step in.

Palacios praised the Panthers for their efforts to strengthen the secondary, highlighting Horn’s stability, Jackson’s re-signing, the acquisition of Trevon Moehrig, and the drafting of Lathan Ransom. Since Jackson is the least experienced corner, adding Alexander would provide a valuable veteran mentor, helping Jackson thrive against less formidable opponents.

That said, acquiring Alexander would likely come at a steep price. The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback has 12 career interceptions, and the Panthers would need to part with significant draft capital to land him.

While that capital is crucial for Carolina’s ongoing rebuild, the cost might not be justified. A high-priced cornerback, while an upgrade, may not be their top priority compared to other areas like safety, linebacker, and other spots in need of attention. So, splurging on Alexander might not be the most effective use of their resources.
