The Tennessee Volunteers might be facing a brewing battle on the recruiting front. As the SEC recruiting race intensifies, Tennessee is working to secure the commitment of one of its top 2026 prospects—four-star tight end Carson Sneed. The 6-foot-5½, 235-pound standout from Nashville committed to the Vols last August, but signs are emerging that his pledge may not be as firm as once thought.
Sneed’s initial commitment was influenced in part by his brother’s spot on the Tennessee roster. However, with his brother now transferred to North Carolina, questions have started to swirl. Carson’s recent official visit to Chapel Hill has only fueled speculation, leaving Vols fans anxious about whether Tennessee can hold on to one of their most prized recruits.
And the pressure isn’t letting up. Florida, Miami, and Ole Miss have all jumped into the mix, and Tennessee’s hold on their in-state standout could be slipping.
Florida Gators offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Russ Callaway has recently ramped up his pursuit of Sneed, and their relationship appears to be gaining momentum quickly.

“He pretty much told me he sees me as one of the top, if not the top, tight ends in my class,” Sneed told On3. “He really wants me and plans to use me in a variety of roles—whether that’s blocking or being a part of the passing game. All kinds of ways. I think that fits my style of play perfectly, so I feel like we’d be a great match.”

Sneed is slated to take an official visit to Florida from June 13–15, with trips to Ole Miss and Miami also on his calendar before his planned visit to Tennessee on June 20. Programs like Florida are highlighting their proven track record of utilizing tight ends—Kyle Pitts being a prime example—which puts added pressure on the Vols to solidify their position. If Sneed ends up flipping his commitment, it would be more than just a recruiting setback—it could significantly impact Tennessee’s future offensive strategy.
