Colorado Buffaloes Add Transfer Offensive Lineman Walker Andersen
Walker Andersen, a former UCLA offensive lineman, has committed to the Colorado Buffaloes, joining coach Deion Sanders’ program through the transfer portal. Andersen, who didn’t see playing time with the Bruins last season, comes to Colorado with four years of eligibility remaining and is expected to provide depth on the offensive line. He is the Buffaloes’ eighth offensive line transfer addition this offseason, and the fourth this spring.
Andersen made his decision after an official visit to Boulder last week, where he received an offer from Colorado. Before joining the Buffaloes, Andersen had offers from several smaller programs, including Alabama A&M, North Alabama, and Norfolk State, but Colorado quickly became his destination.
Standing at 6’8″ and weighing 335 pounds (though listed at 6’5″ and 290 by UCLA), Andersen did not play for the Bruins after being recruited on scholarship. He attended El Dorado High School in Placentia, California, where he earned All-CIF Division 7 honors and was named league lineman of the year, all while playing tackle. He was also a standout in track and field.

Andersen becomes the 29th transfer addition for Colorado this offseason, helping the program rank 19th nationally for transfer success, and second in the Big 12 according to 247Sports. He joins several other notable additions to the offensive line, including former Tennessee tackle Larry Johnson III, Maryland’s Andre Roye Jr., and Memphis’ Xavier Hill.
As Coach Prime continues to build a new offensive line staff, including former NFL players George Hegamin and Andre Gurode, the focus is on improving the unit’s depth and versatility. Although Colorado’s offensive line showed improvement during the spring game, Sanders has expressed concerns about the group’s overall depth. Andersen, with his size and potential flexibility to play both guard and tackle, fits the profile of the kind of versatile reserve that Sanders desires.
Andersen, who has been somewhat underrated by many recruiting sites, will need to prove himself and exceed expectations in Boulder. With the competition for the starting quarterback spot between Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis heating up, the offensive line’s protection will be crucial for Colorado’s success. If Andersen rises to the challenge, his experience and growth could be key in reshaping the Buffs’ offensive front.
