Georgia Tech Adds Former UNC WR Evan Haynes From Transfer Portal
Georgia Tech has strengthened its wide receiver corps with the addition of Evan Haynes, a former standout at the University of North Carolina. Haynes announced his transfer to the Yellow Jackets on Sunday via Instagram. He will reunite with former Fellowship Christian teammate Josh Petty, who currently plays for Georgia Tech, and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Haynes, who was once a finalist for Georgia Tech during his recruitment process, ultimately chose UNC in August. However, he had expressed strong interest in the Yellow Jackets at that time, citing the school’s great education, proximity to home, and excellent coaching staff. “Georgia Tech is definitely top 3 for me right now,” Haynes said back then. “The relationship has been great. The education is great… It’s really home because it’s not too far from me. The environment is great and the coaching is great. I really like the school.”

When Haynes joined the Tar Heels, he was a 5’7″, 140-pound prospect. By his senior year, he had grown to 6’3″ and 200 pounds. A multi-sport athlete, Haynes also excelled in lacrosse and track at Fellowship Christian in Roswell, Georgia. In track, he set several records, including a 10.96 in the 100-meter dash and the 200M and 400M records. He was also a key contributor to relay teams, holding the records for the 4x100M, 4x200M, and 4x400M.
A three-star recruit out of high school, Haynes was ranked as a Top 150 wide receiver and was just outside the top 100 in the state, according to On3 Industry Rankings. His speed, strong hands, and ability to make big plays make him a promising addition for Georgia Tech’s future. With his combination of elite athleticism and technical skills, Haynes could become a significant weapon for the Yellow Jackets in the years to come.
