Minnesota Timberwolves Encouraged to Pursue Trade for $197 Million All-Star
Should the Minnesota Timberwolves consider trading for New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson to pair him with Anthony Edwards?
If the Timberwolves fall short in Game 5 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, it would mark the second consecutive year in which Anthony Edwards was outshined by a peer of his generation in the Conference Finals.
If that scenario unfolds, the big question will be: What’s next for the team? Should they bring the same roster back and focus on player development, or is it time for a change? Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report believes the Timberwolves should go all-in on a trade for Zion Williamson.
“If the Wolves can’t get past the Thunder and need to elevate their offensive game, pairing Williamson with Edwards could form a dominant scoring duo, provided both stay healthy,” Swartz noted.
However, it’s unlikely that the Timberwolves would make a bold move for a high-profile All-Star like Williamson this offseason. A more realistic addition might be a player like Jrue Holiday or Derrick White—two-way players who could make an immediate impact on both ends of the floor.
As for the Pelicans, it’s tough to see them trading Zion anytime soon. New head of basketball operations, Joe Dumars, appears committed to keeping Williamson this season and seeing how things develop. But if New Orleans faces another injury-plagued season, they might reconsider their stance.
