Sun Belt Conference, Marshall Football Thrill Fans with Significant Announcement

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Football head coach Tony Gibson has confirmed the kickoff time for his first game as leader of the Herd: a 3:30 p.m. match against Georgia on August 30 at the historic Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia.

This game time was announced as part of the Sun Belt Conference’s initial schedule release in collaboration with ESPN on Thursday, which included several other key match announcements.

In addition, Gibson learned the times for his first two home games: both at 6 p.m. against Missouri State on September 6 (Wear Green) and Eastern Kentucky on September 13 (Wear White) at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Fans can stream both games on ESPN+.

“The announcement of game times brings us closer to the season, and it’s fueling our eagerness to hit the field,” said head coach Tony Gibson. “Starting the season at Georgia on national television is an incredible opportunity for our program, and I’m excited to lead our team onto the field at The Joan on September 6 with our supporters cheering us on.”

Additionally, the Sun Belt revealed that Marshall’s October 30 game at Coastal Carolina will kick off at 7:30 p.m. as a prime-time matchup, airing on ESPN or ESPN2.

The timing for other Sun Belt games, including the October 18 Homecoming game against Texas State, will be announced within a 12-day window as dictated by the ESPN contract.

Marshall also found out that its September 20 game at Middle Tennessee will take place at 7 p.m. at Johnny “Red” Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro, TN. This game round out Marshall’s non-conference schedule for 2025, allowing fans to start planning their attendance for the opening month of the season.

The announcements on Thursday also included game times for the first three weeks and several mid-week contests, as well as news that the 2025 Sun Belt Championship Game will be held on Friday, December 5, at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

As the defending Sun Belt Conference Champion, Marshall concluded the 2024 season with a 10-3 record and finished strong with a seven-game winning streak.
