Brewers Eye $21 Million World Series Champion in Potential Trade with Red Sox

The Milwaukee Brewers, riding high on an eight-game win streak, are now in a position to make a move on the trade market, particularly with the Boston Red Sox.

After a rocky start to the season due to injuries plaguing their pitching staff, the Brewers have managed to turn things around. Despite their recent success, pitching depth remains a concern. As they aim for their third division title in four years, adding another solid starting pitcher could be key before the MLB trade deadline on July 31. Interestingly, the Red Sox may be open to trading one of their key assets.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that Boston could be willing to deal former Los Angeles Dodgers starter Walker Buehler, who has had a somewhat uneven season so far. Despite struggling with injuries, including a shoulder issue that landed him on the IL, Buehler has shown glimpses of his old self in 2025. He’s posted a 4-3 record with a 4.44 ERA across 46 2/3 innings, striking out 42 batters while maintaining a 1.31 WHIP.

Buehler, a two-time All-Star, has battled through two Tommy John surgeries, but his career has still been impressive with a 51-25 record and a 3.34 ERA. He was a key part of the Dodgers’ World Series victories in 2020 and 2024, including pitching the final out of the 2024 championship.

Currently under a one-year, $21.05 million contract with Boston (with a $25 million mutual option for 2026), Buehler could provide the Brewers with a veteran, postseason-experienced arm to strengthen their rotation as they push for a deep playoff run.
