Falcons Add Former Titans Safety to Roster
The Atlanta Falcons have signed former Tennessee Titans safety Josh Thompson to their roster, while releasing safety Benny Sapp III in a corresponding move.
Thompson originally joined the Falcons in August 2024, participating in training camp, but was waived before the start of the season. Now, the Falcons have brought him back on board for another shot at an NFL career.
After going undrafted in 2022, Thompson made his NFL debut with the Titans as a rookie. He played in six games during the 2022 season, all on special teams, following a five-year stint with the Texas Longhorns.
Thompson first signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and was placed on their practice squad. However, the Titans claimed him on October 18, 2022, and he made his NFL debut just a few days later in a Week 7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Upon joining Tennessee, Thompson noted that he had already built connections with several teammates through events like the Senior Bowl. “I know some guys from training, like Malik (Willis) and Roger (McCreary). They’ve been great mentors for me, even though we’re the same age,” Thompson said after signing with the Titans. “It all happened so fast, but I just tried to adjust quickly, learn the system, and make it count.” He also emphasized the warmth he felt from his new teammates, adding, “They make you feel like family right away.”
