Steelers Still in Play for Dolphins’ Pro Bowl Tight End
The Pittsburgh Steelers are still in the mix for Miami Dolphins’ Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the two teams resumed trade discussions about Smith on Tuesday, keeping the possibility of a deal alive for now.

Earlier, Schefter reported that Pittsburgh was unlikely to acquire Smith, who is reportedly seeking a new contract. The Steelers were also preparing to host wide receiver Gabe Davis for a visit on Thursday.

While Smith would prefer to stay with the Dolphins in his home state of Florida, he was absent from OTAs, and there hasn’t been much progress on a potential contract extension so far.

Back in it: the Steelers renewed conversations today with Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith, who is seeking a new contract. The trade between the Steelers and Dolphins is still alive, per source.

The Steelers’ interest in Smith became public late last week, as the team is looking to strengthen its roster after trading wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys on May 7.

Smith, 29, is familiar with Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, having worked under him as both a tight ends coach and offensive coordinator during their time with the Tennessee Titans from 2017 to 2020. The two also reunited in 2023 when Arthur Smith coached Smith during his last year with the Atlanta Falcons.
