Big News for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits basketball

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota State women’s basketball team is set to face off against the Montana Lady Griz in a nonconference game on November 15 at Summit Arena at The Monument. Tickets will be available to the general public starting September 5 at 10 a.m.

“We’re excited to host both teams in Rapid City,” said Craig Baltzer, Executive Director of The Monument. “The energy from Jackrabbit fans during the men’s game last fall was incredible, and we anticipate that this women’s matchup will attract fans and alumni from both schools.”

The Jackrabbits come into the season after winning their third straight Summit League Championship and participating in the NCAA Tournament. They entered the postseason as a No. 10 seed, defeating No. 7 Oklahoma State 74-68 in the first round before losing to the eventual national champion, Connecticut, in the second round. This will mark the first NCAA Division I women’s basketball game held at The Monument.

“We’re excited to bring Jackrabbit basketball to Rapid City for this thrilling matchup with Montana,” said SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston. “Our West River fanbase is robust, and we can’t wait to fill Summit Arena with SDSU supporters. Montana will be a formidable opponent and will help us get ready for our Summit League schedule.”

The University of Montana Grizzlies finished the 2024–25 season strong, placing second in the Big Sky Conference Tournament with an overall record of 14–18 and an 8–10 record in conference play.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams, with SDSU leading the series 3–0, having most recently won 78–70 in Montana on December 7, 2024. This matchup with Montana is SDSU’s third game against a Big Sky Conference opponent in the 2025-26 season.
