A definite name to know going forward.
A four-star recruit from nearby Greeneville is scheduled to visit Knoxville this weekend. Trey Thompson, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound power forward, will be making his official visit to Tennessee in the coming days.
Thompson is ranked as the fourth-best player in Tennessee for the class of 2026, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He stands at 131st overall in the class and is the 26th ranked power forward prospect.
Tennessee extended an offer to Thompson last November, trying to catch up to other schools. He also has offers from several universities, including Purdue, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, UConn, Virginia, Xavier, Vanderbilt, and more.
Thompson visited Purdue officially in November, right after receiving his offer from Tennessee. This month, he will be taking official visits to Tennessee and Iowa as he begins to narrow down his options.
So far, Tennessee has not secured a commitment in the early 2026 recruiting process, though they signed five high school prospects in the class of 2025.
Thompson is definitely a player to watch as Tennessee aims to keep him in-state against competition from a few Big Ten programs.
