ESPN Teases Upcoming Documentary on Scot Pollard’s Heart Transplant Journey
ESPN has dropped the trailer for its upcoming E60 documentary, which highlights former Kansas basketball standout Scot Pollard’s inspiring struggle with heart transplant surgery.
The documentary, titled Heart of Pearl, chronicles Pollard’s remarkable journey as he awaited and underwent life-saving heart transplant surgery in early 2024.
The trailer revisits Pollard’s career, showcasing his notable moments from high school, college, and the NBA. It also touches on the emotional impact of his father’s death from heart failure and how that tragedy shaped Pollard as both a person and a player.
In the trailer, former Kansas head coach Roy Williams appears, recalling his recruiting pitch to Pollard when he was considering a move from the West Coast to Kansas. “I will never take the place of your dad,” Williams says. “But if you give me a chance, I think you’ll be able to trust me like a second father.”
Pollard thrived under Williams’ mentorship, playing a crucial role in one of the most successful eras of Kansas basketball in the mid-1990s. Known for his defensive skills and toughness, Pollard helped lead the Jayhawks to four consecutive Sweet Sixteen appearances and one Elite Eight. After his senior year on what many KU fans consider the best roster in Kansas history, he was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 19th overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft.
Pollard ranks sixth in KU history with 218 career blocks and eighth in rebounds with 850.
The full E60 feature will air live on ESPN on Father’s Day, June 15, at 1 p.m. ET, and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ later that day.
