Trade Proposal Sees Canadiens Landing Two Key Players from Avalanche in Major Deal
After making the playoffs as the eighth seed, the Montreal Canadiens are looking to strengthen their roster by adding more talent.
A trade proposal from PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool suggests a blockbuster deal in which the Canadiens would acquire two significant players from the Colorado Avalanche.

This deal would be a big move for Montreal, bringing in two impactful players while giving Colorado some cap relief and future assets to work with.
Colton, who has two years remaining on his four-year, $16 million contract, would provide the Canadiens with a strong third-line forward. He won the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021 and posted 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points in 61 games with Colorado last season. Colton would bring depth scoring to Montreal’s lineup.
Meanwhile, Manson would bolster the Canadiens’ defense as a physical second-pairing blueliner. Known for his solid defensive play, Manson registered 1 goal and 14 assists for 15 points in 2023-24. He has one year left on his four-year, $18 million contract.
In return, Montreal would send Struble, who is a 23-year-old restricted free agent (RFA) and a solid defensive player in his own right. Struble contributed 2 goals and 11 assists for 13 points in 56 games last season. The Canadiens would also part with two draft picks, including a second-round pick from Columbus and a fourth-round pick from New Jersey.
This trade would give Montreal more depth and physicality, while Colorado would gain younger talent and draft picks for future growth.
