Auburn football lands 3-star RB, eighth 2026 commit

The Auburn football team hosted nearly ten recruits on campus this weekend for official visits, and their efforts paid off significantly. After his visit to the Plains, 3-star running back Eric Perry announced his commitment to the Tigers.

Hailing from Southhaven, Mississippi, Perry is ranked as the No. 87 athlete in the 2026 recruiting class and is the No. 36 recruit from his home state. He plays quarterback at DeSoto Central High School but has been recruited by Auburn Offensive Coordinator Derrick Nix and the coaching staff as a running back. According to Auburn Rivals, Nix has been instrumental in his recruitment.

“He was really the main factor because he was the one that called my phone, telling me everything,” Perry shared. “We talked about my film and other things. I could sense he genuinely wanted me here, and I believe he was being honest with everything he said.”

Perry first visited the Plains earlier this spring and quickly received an offer from the Tigers, which was just his second offer from a Power Four program. By the time his official visit came around, he was ready to commit to Auburn.

“I just wanted to play at the highest level in the SEC,” Perry explained regarding his decision, as reported by Auburn Undercover. “I really didn’t want to play anywhere else. They had reached out to me, and I was really excited because my cousin played at Mississippi State, so that set the standard for me. This was really my first time here.”

Perry is the eighth commitment in Auburn football’s 2026 recruiting class and is the first running back to join. The class is currently ranked No. 35 overall.
