La Sorsa has appeared in one game this season for the Reds.
The Reds have placed relief pitcher Brent Suter on the bereavement list as of Tuesday and have recalled left-handed pitcher Joe La Sorsa.
Suter shared with Charlie Goldsmith that his grandmother recently passed away.
“Every athlete goes through it,” Suter stated. “Dealing with grief properly—whether it’s talking to someone or just allowing yourself to feel it—then transitioning back into baseball mode and doing your job is challenging. It’s not easy. Every player in this locker room is a fantastic professional and manages to navigate this. You don’t reach this level or maintain it without the ability to handle complex mental and physical situations.”
La Sorsa has made one appearance for the Reds this season, throwing a scoreless inning against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
The lefty has participated in 21 games with Triple-A Louisville this season, posting a 3.92 ERA over 20 2/3 innings, with opponents hitting just .181 against him this year.
