Following their 13-5 win against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, the New York Mets have secured three consecutive victories and eight wins in their last ten games. Although they faced some challenges in May, the Mets currently boast a 42-24 record, the best in the National League. Only the 43-24 Detroit Tigers have a superior record in Major League Baseball.
The Mets are set to return home for a three-game series against the Washington Nationals starting on Tuesday. The teams had previously split their four-game series from April 25-28.
In preparation for Tuesday’s match, New York made a roster adjustment that could influence the upcoming series.
As the Mets seek to capitalize on their recent success and finish the season on a high note, they are focused on assembling the strongest team possible. To that end, they’ve made some roster adjustments as of Monday.
According to the official account of the Mets on X, the team has promoted right-handed pitcher Justin Garza to the major league roster. In a related move, left-handed pitcher Brandon Waddell has been sent to Triple-A Syracuse.
New York obtained Garza from the San Francisco Giants on June 7 in exchange for cash considerations. The 31-year-old last played in the majors for the Boston Red Sox in 2023, where he accumulated a 7.36 ERA and a 0-2 record over 18.1 innings. He also posted a 1.85 WHIP and a 1.42 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Garza is expected to make his Mets debut on Tuesday as they kick off their series against Washington.
