June plays a crucial role in college football recruiting, packed with key weekends that can shape a program’s future. While programs work to bring in new talent, they also have to hold onto their current commitments—something Auburn is handling well when it comes to wide receiver Devin Carter.
Carter, who committed to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers back in January 2025, has remained solid despite interest from other schools trying to flip him. The Douglasville, Georgia native recently took a visit to Florida State and came away impressed. Still, after spending a weekend back at Auburn, he reaffirmed his commitment in an interview with 247Sports’ Auburn Undercover.
“I felt good after my Florida State visit. I enjoyed it, but once I left Auburn, I knew that was home—and it still is,” Carter said.
Florida State isn’t the only program making a strong push for Devin Carter. Both Georgia and North Carolina are also in pursuit, with the Tar Heels set to host him for an official visit this coming weekend. Still, the Seminoles seem to pose the biggest threat, given Carter’s previous commitment to the program and his status as a legacy recruit.
According to 247Sports, Carter is rated as the No. 15 wide receiver in the nation, the No. 13 overall player in Georgia, and ranks No. 135 nationally—making him a high-priority target for many top programs.
For Hugh Freeze and Auburn, Carter’s firm commitment is encouraging, especially after recently losing four-star linebacker JaMichael Garrett, who decommitted from the 2026 class last week. While there’s still time for the Tigers to climb the rankings, their current standing trails behind where they’ve been in recent recruiting cycles.
