2nd NJ recruit in the class
The Syracuse Orange aren’t taking a break from recruiting, even on Father’s Day. On Sunday, they secured a verbal commitment from 2026 linebacker Gemaus Sackie.
Sackie, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound prospect from Burlington, New Jersey, is now the 17th pledge in Syracuse’s 2026 recruiting class, which 247Sports currently ranks 27th nationally. A three-star recruit, Sackie is listed as the No. 21 player in New Jersey for his class by 247Sports. He picked the Orange over offers from Temple, Stony Brook, and Maine.
Despite a modest offer sheet, Sackie holds the No. 80 national ranking among linebackers by 247Sports. He’s also a standout athlete, helping his school’s 4x100m relay team set a New Jersey state record. This might be a case of Syracuse identifying a rising star before a potential breakout during the summer camp circuit.
Syracuse extended an offer to Sackie during his visit last week, and he quickly jumped on board with a commitment. Based on his social media updates, Sackie recorded 70 tackles over 10 games last season while playing for an 8-2 Burlington Township team. His stat line also included seven sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and an interception.
