Chiefs’ Rashee Rice Thrilled to Have Travis Kelce Back

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice recently shared his excitement about Travis Kelce’s return. The Chiefs’ passing game in 2024 wasn’t as smooth or effective as in previous seasons, largely due to a series of unfortunate injuries that kept key players out of the lineup for extended periods.

Rice, who was sidelined early in the season, played a pivotal role in limiting Patrick Mahomes’ options on offense. After a solid rookie year, Rice was eager to make a bigger impact in his sophomore season, but his injury setback hampered those plans. In addition to Rice’s absence, Hollywood Brown also got hurt, forcing the Chiefs to lean on Xavier Worthy—last year’s first-round pick—who had to be game-ready from the start. Though Worthy proved capable of stepping up, his intended role was to be a speedster and exploit one-on-one matchups, a role that was made more difficult by the injuries around him.

Injuries weren’t the only factor in the Chiefs’ passing struggles; there was also a noticeable decline in the performance of key offensive players. Travis Kelce, in particular, had a rough 2024 season, his worst statistically by far. At times, it seemed like Kelce lost focus and abandoned plays, and though the connection with Mahomes was still visible, it appeared that age may have finally caught up to the star tight end.

After the Chiefs last Super Bowl loss, there were questions on if future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce would retire.

After the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss, rumors swirled that Kelce might retire, just shy of making more NFL history. But during a recent chat with journalist Chancellor Johnson at a Houston football camp, Rice expressed his excitement over Kelce’s decision to return for another year.

For the Chiefs’ offense to get back on track, staying healthy will be key for both Kelce and Mahomes. Without them at full strength, the Chiefs’ offense becomes more predictable. The return of Kelce is a huge boost for both the players and Chiefs Kingdom, but the lingering question is how much longer he’ll continue to play.

As the Chiefs look to reclaim their place at the top in 2025, they’ll need to make another Super Bowl run to prove they are still the team to beat and that their dynasty is far from over.
