The Penguins Should Only Trade Bryan Rust for an Irresistible Offer
The Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly fielding calls on assistant captain Bryan Rust as they enter a rebuild or retool phase. However, they should only consider trading the veteran forward if an offer that’s too good to pass up comes their way.
As the Penguins look to align their roster with general manager Kyle Dubas’ vision for the future, they may need to make some difficult decisions. One of those decisions could involve Bryan Rust, a key player who has formed strong chemistry with Sidney Crosby. But if a team offers a significant return—like a first-round pick and a top prospect—Dubas might find it hard to say no.
The Penguins Shouldn’t Trade Rust Just for the Sake of It
If the Penguins are looking to trade Rust simply to clear him off the roster, that would be a huge mistake. The team should only move him if they receive an extraordinary offer. If Dubas Does Trade Rust, It Should Be for the Right Price
With the NHL draft approaching, Dubas is sitting on a significant number of picks over the next few years. Trading Rust could add another first-round pick to that pool, speeding up the Penguins’ rebuild. While it’s still uncertain whether the Penguins will land the Rangers’ first-round pick, moving Rust could set the stage for a brighter future as the team works toward a return to contender status.
