Nolan Hoffman worked his way through the Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles’ farm systems before the Texas Rangers took a flier on him and flipped him to the Philadelphia Phillies for cash.
The Texas Rangers have dealt right-handed pitcher Nolan Hoffman to the Philadelphia Phillies, both teams confirmed Wednesday morning.
In exchange for Hoffman, the Phillies sent cash considerations to Texas. Philadelphia promptly added the 27-year-old reliever to their 40-man roster but then optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Hoffman had appeared in 22 games for Triple-A Round Rock this season, posting a 2-0 record with a 5.91 ERA, a 1.457 WHIP, and an average of 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
Nolan Hoffman began his professional baseball journey with the Seattle Mariners, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Texas A\&M. He reached as high as High-A before the Baltimore Orioles picked him up in the minor league phase of the 2021 Rule 5 Draft.
He stayed within the Orioles’ system through the conclusion of the 2024 season, after which the sidearming reliever became a free agent and signed a minor league deal with the Rangers.
Entering the 2025 season, Hoffman had compiled a 14-13 record with a 3.28 ERA, 1.336 WHIP, and averaged 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings over 163 minor league outings. He has not yet appeared in a Major League game.
