Ravens Add Pro Bowl CB Jaire Alexander to Secondary
The Baltimore Ravens have made a significant move to strengthen their secondary by signing two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, the team confirmed on Wednesday. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the one-year deal is worth $6 million, giving Alexander a chance to bounce back and prove his value.
At 28, Alexander remains one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks when healthy. Over the course of his career, he has posted a passer rating under 90 in five of his seven seasons, excelling at locking down top wide receivers.
However, the key concern is his health. Alexander has only played 14 games over the past two seasons due to injuries, and his limited availability ultimately led to the Green Bay Packers parting ways with him last week.
That could turn into a win for the Ravens, though. Not only do they fill a significant need with a former Pro Bowler, but they also make star quarterback Lamar Jackson happy. Jackson and Alexander were teammates at Louisville, and on Tuesday, the two-time MVP urged Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta to sign his close friend.
“Go get ’em, Eric!” Jackson said to reporters. “I love all our corners, don’t get me wrong, but go get ’em Eric!”
Alexander now joins a talented cornerback group led by All-Pro Marlon Humphrey and 2024 first-round pick Nate Wiggins. He is expected to start on the outside alongside Wiggins, while Humphrey continues to play in the slot.
