Browns Release Rookie WR Ja’Seem Reed After Injury Setback
The Cleveland Browns have officially parted ways with rookie wide receiver Ja’Seem Reed.
After a rough season in 2024, the Browns are looking to bolster their offensive lineup, but their experiment with Reed has come to an end. The team waived Reed on Tuesday, according to the NFL transaction wire. Reed, who was signed as an undrafted free agent, had an impressive college career with 1,052 receiving yards, 77 catches, and 12 touchdowns for San Diego.
Reed was initially waived last month with an injury designation, cleared waivers, and was subsequently placed on injured reserve.
The Browns did not draft a wide receiver in 2025 and are in need of depth behind standout Jerry Jeudy, who had a breakout year in 2024. Cleveland added Diontae Johnson through free agency, hoping he can bounce back after a tough few seasons playing for multiple teams.
There are still several veteran wide receivers available, including Keenan Allen and Gabe Davis, that the Browns could pursue.
This offseason, Cleveland focused on adding quarterbacks, signing Joe Flacco to a one-year deal and trading for Kenny Pickett from the Philadelphia Eagles. They also drafted rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. While Flacco and Pickett may not be long-term solutions, Sanders and Gabriel offer future potential.
With the season fast approaching, the Browns would benefit from strengthening their receiving corps. Though they have several options on the roster, that number will be trimmed down before the start of the season.
