Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Addresses Speeding Ticket Incident

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is no stranger to public attention, so it’s no surprise that the news of his recent speeding ticket sparked a lot of scrutiny.

Sanders was cited earlier this week in Strongsville, OH, for speeding at 101 mph in a 60 mph zone on I-71 North early Tuesday morning. This was actually the second speeding violation he’s received in Cleveland since being drafted by the Browns in April.

On June 6, Sanders was ticketed for driving nearly 30 mph over the speed limit in Medina. He also missed a court appearance for an arraignment related to that ticket on June 16, though the reasons for his absence are unclear. He was fined $250 for the previous violation.

In the wake of these incidents, Sanders faced criticism, but he addressed the situation publicly for the first time while attending David Njoku’s celebrity softball game on Thursday night.

Shedeur Sanders said this about his speeding violation:

“I’ve made some wrong choices, personally, I can own up to them,” Sanders said in a video from the event. “I’ve made some not great choices. I learn from it.”

While Sanders’ speeding tickets might raise eyebrows, they don’t have to define him as a person or player. What’s important, as he emphasized, is that he learns from his mistakes.

As one of four quarterbacks vying for the Browns’ starting job in training camp next month, Sanders’ off-field issues likely won’t impact his NFL prospects, especially given how the team has handled similar incidents with players in the past.
