NFL Writer Proposes Potential Jets-Titans Trade for Defensive Help
The New York Jets find themselves in a unique situation heading into the upcoming season.
While they’re not bad enough to be labeled as a team “tanking” for a top draft pick, with Justin Fields as their quarterback, it’s unclear how far they can realistically go in the playoffs. The Jets aren’t Super Bowl contenders at the moment, but with continued smart moves this offseason, they could surprise some people.
Mike Gianakos of Clutch Points recently proposed that the Jets might consider acquiring defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day from the Tennessee Titans to strengthen their defensive line.
“Sebastian Joseph-Day is another, more affordable option to improve the Jets’ interior defense,” Gianakos wrote. “Joseph-Day re-signed with the Titans for a one-year, $6.5 million deal this offseason. However, with the Titans focused on T’Vondre Sweat and Jeffery Simmons on the interior, they may be open to moving the 30-year-old veteran.
“Joseph-Day played around half of the defensive snaps for Tennessee last season but performed well as a run defender, ranking eighth out of 219 DTs in 2024.”
The Jets have a glaring need for help along their defensive line, and many had hoped they’d land Mason Graham with their No. 7 pick in the NFL Draft, but that didn’t happen.
Now, trading for Joseph-Day seems like a logical move. The veteran defensive tackle could be a solid complement to Quinnen Williams and the rest of the Jets’ defensive line group.
