The New York Mets are in one of the most promising spots in Major League Baseball, sitting just half a game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top record in the National League. Still, their recent five-game skid has highlighted growing concerns around their pitching depth.
Top starter Kodai Senga (hamstring) and rotation mate Tylor Megill (elbow) are both sidelined on the 15-day injured list. On Wednesday, the Mets turned to right-hander Paul Blackburn to face the Atlanta Braves. It was just his fourth appearance of the season, and he struggled, giving up four runs (three earned) over 3.2 innings in a 5-0 loss.
On Thursday afternoon, manager Carlos Mendoza announced that a new arm would soon be joining the rotation, according to SNY.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza shared that there’s a “good chance” right-hander Frankie Montas (lat injury) could be added to the rotation next week.
Montas, 32, has struggled mightily during his rehab stint in the minors, posting an 0-3 record with a 12.05 ERA over six starts. He has yet to appear in a major league game this season.

Meanwhile, right-hander Clay Holmes (7-3, 2.87 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound Thursday against the Braves. The Mets will then head to Philadelphia to continue their road trip against a Phillies team just one game back in the NL East standings.
