Criticism Grows Over Rutgers Star Ace Bailey’s Decision to Cancel Visit
Ace Bailey, the Rutgers forward, has come under heavy criticism for his decision to cancel a visit with the Philadelphia 76ers, who hold the No. 3 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
ESPN analysts were quick to slam Bailey’s move, calling it “delusional” and “stupid.”
“His camp sees him as a top-three player,” said ESPN’s Frank Isola. “So, why wouldn’t you want to meet with the Sixers, who have the third pick?”
Bailey had been scheduled to fly to Philadelphia for a dinner with the 76ers’ front office and a private workout. This decision comes amid growing concerns over Bailey’s draft stock and reports about his performance during team interviews.
Many believe that Bailey might need some time to develop when he enters the league, but his confidence in his path to stardom has raised eyebrows.
“And then you’re hearing he sees a clear path to stardom with a team like the Wizards, thinking it’s an easier route,” Isola added. “What’s easy about becoming a star in the NBA? That’s delusional.”
In his latest mock draft, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony dropped Bailey to the No. 6 pick, going to the Washington Wizards.
Bailey has often been considered one of the top prospects in this year’s draft, ranking just behind Duke’s Cooper Flagg and his own Rutgers teammate Dylan Harper. However, analysts now believe Bailey could fall anywhere from the third pick to somewhere between No. 6 and 10.
As the draft approaches, pundits are urging Bailey and his camp to make smarter decisions.
“Somebody needs to step in and adjust things in that camp right now,” said Michael Wilbon.
