Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer Expected to Have Strong First Season in Dallas

There’s plenty of buzz surrounding the 2025 Dallas Cowboys, but the biggest storyline might be the coaching change. Instead of bringing in a high-profile external hire, the Cowboys opted to promote from within, selecting former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as head coach.
Despite what some national media may suggest, the Cowboys had significant potential last season, but injuries played a major role in their underwhelming 2024 campaign. Now, as the Schottenheimer era begins, there’s optimism, with Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski offering high praise for the first-year head coach.
When predicting the success of every first-year coach, Sobleski forecasts that Schottenheimer and the Cowboys will finish 11-6. He points to a few key reasons for this outlook: Schottenheimer’s familiarity with the organization, his time with the team since 2022, the Cowboys’ consistent 10-win average under the previous regime (with the 2024 season derailed by Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury), and Schottenheimer’s legacy as a coach, having been mentored by his late father, Marty.
While an 11-win season for the Cowboys isn’t out of the question, it’s understandable if fans remain cautious about such bold predictions.
