Déjà Vu: Patriots Re-Sign Veteran OL

Patriots Re-Sign Veteran OL Yasir Durant

The New England Patriots are continuing their efforts to strengthen their offensive line, turning to a familiar face to help bolster the unit.

According to MLFootball, the Patriots have signed veteran offensive lineman Yasir Durant to a one-year deal. The 27-year-old previously played with New England in 2021.

Standing 6’6″ and weighing 331 pounds, Durant was a left tackle in college, where he started 33 games over three seasons at Missouri. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020, appearing in 11 games as a rookie and starting once at right guard in Week 17. Durant was traded to the Patriots for a 2022 seventh-round pick in September 2021. He played in seven games for New England that season, starting once and taking 95 offensive snaps, including a fumble recovery. He was waived by the Patriots during final roster cuts in August 2022.

Durant spent the 2022 season with the New Orleans Saints and the 2023 season with the Denver Broncos before joining the UFL’s DC Defenders in 2024. During his two years in the Nation’s capital, he became a key member of their offensive line, helping the team achieve a 6-4 record and securing a 58-34 win over the Michigan Panthers in the 2025 UFL Championship Game. Durant was named to the 2025 All-UFL Team.

Durant is expected to serve as a reserve swing option, capable of playing both tackle and guard. However, he may face tough competition for a roster spot, especially with the Patriots potentially looking to fill their depth positions with younger players.

Currently, Durant will compete for a spot among a crowded offensive line group that includes presumed starters Will Campbell, Cole Strange, Garrett Bradbury, Mike Onwenu, and Morgan Moses, as well as reserves Marcus Bryant, Caedan Wallace, Sidy Sow, Vederian Lowe, Layden Robinson, Ben Brown, Tyrese Robinson, Demontrey Jacobs, Jack Conley, and Cole Birdow.
