Mets Get Positive Update After Suffering Third Consecutive Loss

The New York Mets currently sit in second place in the NL East, but their performance has been reminiscent of a struggling team. They’ve recorded just one win in their last ten games, suffering lopsided defeats of 10-2 and 7-1 against the first-place Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend.

If the Mets lose to the Atlanta Braves again on Wednesday night, they will have dropped four games in a row and four consecutive series. The Braves edged them out with a 3-2 win on Monday and followed up with a 7-4 victory on Tuesday.

While New York trails the Phillies by 1.5 games for the lead in the NL East, they do hold the top Wild Card spot in the National League. Additionally, they received encouraging news about an injured player ahead of Thursday’s game, according to SNY.

“[Mark Vientos] was in the minors last night, and they had a game today,” manager Carlos Mendoza stated. “He played third base and had three at-bats… He’ll be back in New York tomorrow.”

“We need to check in with the trainers and have a conversation with him,” he added. “We’ll determine if he requires a day off after playing two games in a row or if he’s ready to play again.”

Vientos (hamstring) has a batting line of .230/.298/.380, with six home runs and 21 RBIs in 53 games this season. Last year, during his first playoff run, the 25-year-old posted an impressive .327/.362/.636 with five home runs and 14 RBIs in 13 games.

This season, Vientos has recorded 151 at-bats as a third baseman and 34 as a designated hitter. On Thursday, Brett Baty will take over at third base for New York, while Starling Marte will serve as the designated hitter.

Right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes (7-4, 3.04 ERA) will be on the mound for the Mets, facing off against Braves right-hander Didier Fuentes (0-1, 7.20 ERA).
