The New York Rangers are staying committed to their youth movement. On Monday afternoon, it was announced that forward Adam Edstrom has signed a contract extension. The new deal spans two years and is worth a total of \$1.95 million, carrying an average annual cap hit of \$975,000. The contract will keep Edstrom with the team through the 2026-27 season.

Adam Edstrom has spent his entire NHL career with the New York Rangers so far. The 24-year-old forward tallied five goals and four assists for a total of nine points over 51 games this past season, despite missing significant time due to injuries.
A native of Karlstad, Sweden, Edstrom averaged 9:16 of ice time per game during the 2024-25 season. He posted a 45.1 Corsi For percentage and a relative Corsi of -5.0.
Through 62 career NHL games, he has recorded seven goals and four assists for 11 points. The Rangers selected Edstrom in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Before making the move to North America, the towering forward spent parts of five seasons playing in Sweden for Rogle BK and Mora IK in the Swedish Hockey League.
What It Means
Edstrom might not be the flashiest signing, but he brings notable size to the ice at 6-foot-7 and 241 pounds. His physical style of play stood out as one of the few positives during a challenging 2024-25 season for the Rangers.
He delivered 94 hits—ranking fourth among NHL rookies—and made a strong impression in training camp, earning a spot on the roster.
With Mike Sullivan stepping in as the Rangers’ new head coach, more changes are expected, but Edstrom appears to be in the mix for a role on the team’s bottom-six forward group.
