Indiana Pacers to Sign Skilled Playmaker Steven Ashworth
The Indiana Pacers are set to sign point guard Steven Ashworth, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Ashworth, who spent five years playing college basketball at Utah State and Creighton, has garnered attention for his exceptional playmaking abilities.
In his final season at Creighton, Ashworth averaged 16.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game, with shooting splits of 39.3% from the field and 37.4% from three-point range across 35 games. Despite going undrafted, Ashworth will now join the Pacers, as reported by Scotto, citing sources that confirmed the deal. “Creighton Bluejays point guard and All-Big East Team honoree Steven Ashworth has reached an agreement with the Indiana Pacers. Ashworth led the Big East with 6.8 assists per game last season,” Scotto reported.
Over the course of 167 college games, the 25-year-old finished his career with averages of 11.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists, shooting 40.7% from the field and 38.6% from deep.
Ashworth’s impressive performance was also recognized during the P.I.T. (Professional Invitational Tournament), where he was named to the 2025 P.I.T. All-Tournament Team. He led his team to the championship, averaging 15.7 points and a tournament-best 7.3 assists per game. According to P.I.T., Ashworth was lauded as “the coach on the court” and the “brain of the team.”
The Pacers are coming off an outstanding season, finishing as the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 50-32 record. After a 25-year absence, they made a strong push to the NBA Finals, though they were ultimately defeated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in a seven-game series.
Ashworth’s career achievements include being named to the All-Big East Second Team and making a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA tournament. His final college season saw him rank third among point guards in the nation.
