Titans Face Major Uncertainty at Linebacker
The Tennessee Titans enter the upcoming season with significant questions surrounding their roster. The team has undergone substantial changes, and while there’s optimism about quarterback Cam Ward’s potential, other positions, particularly linebacker, remain a major concern.
The linebacker corps is particularly shaky, as the Titans have seen a major overhaul. According to Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante, this position represents Tennessee’s most significant uncertainty heading into the season.
“The Titans made a major change at linebacker, losing their top five players in defensive snap count at the position this offseason,” Infante noted.
One of the key additions to the linebacker group is former Broncos player Cody Barton, who was a notable signing. However, aside from Barton, the team lacks proven talent in the linebacker room. Young players like Otis Reese IV, Cedric Gray, and James Williams are expected to see playing time, but collectively they’ve only started six NFL games.
The Titans are giving these three players a chance to earn a starting spot alongside Barton during training camp. However, if none of them stand out, the team may look to sign a veteran linebacker through free agency.
This situation mirrors last season’s struggles at right tackle, which disrupted the entire offense. The Titans cycled through various tackles in hopes of finding a solution, but none emerged as a reliable option.
To avoid repeating that mistake, the Titans must either commit to a linebacker who shows significant improvement during training camp or bring in a veteran to provide stability while allowing the younger players to remain as depth options.
With training camp set to begin on July 22, the Titans are running out of time to address this critical issue.
