Four-Star OT Chooses Michigan Over Texas

As the Texas Longhorns continue to gain momentum in recruiting, they’ve hit a setback with the loss of four-star offensive tackle Malakai Lee.

Hailing from Honolulu, Hawaii, Lee has decided to leave the warmth of his home state for colder weather, committing to the Michigan Wolverines on June 27. The 6-foot-6, 318-pound lineman picked Michigan over Texas, Georgia, and Alabama.

Ranked as the No. 14 offensive tackle in the class of 2026 and the No. 2 recruit in Hawaii by 247Sports, Lee’s commitment is a significant win for Michigan, especially with head coach Shannon Moore only in his second year at the helm.

For Texas and the other programs vying for Lee, missing out on a prospect of his size and potential is a tough loss. Lee visited Texas on June 6, and afterward, he praised the Longhorns for their championship ambitions. However, Michigan had already emerged as the favorite before his final decision, making his commitment to the Wolverines less surprising.
