LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Mason Moe embodies the spirit of Minnesota.
Hailing from Eden Prairie, he spent his childhood watching and attending University of Minnesota Gophers hockey and football games. Moe progressed through the state’s hockey programs, moving from bantam leagues to Minnesota high school hockey, and next year he’ll join the Gophers hockey team, which feels fitting.
“I grew up going to University of Minnesota hockey and football games,” he shared. “Many family members attended as well, so it’s always been a dream of mine since I was a kid. Now, I have the chance to go there for my education, and I’m excited to play there in the fall. I’m really grateful for this opportunity.”
Looking ahead, Moe might bring his skills to New Jersey, as he was chosen by the Devils in the third round (90th overall) of the 2025 NHL Draft, held at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater on Saturday afternoon.
“There’s a lot of excitement and built-up emotion for sure,” Moe expressed via Zoom after being selected by the Devils. “It’s a bit of relief too; hearing your name called is an incredibly thrilling and surreal experience.”
Following a lopsided 13-0 loss to the Phillies, the Atlanta Braves announced a bullpen shake-up. The team recalled right-hander Kevin Herget from Triple-A Gwinnett while optioning fellow right-hander Michael Petersen in a corresponding move.
Herget, who was claimed off waivers from the Mets on May 18, was immediately sent to Gwinnett. In 10 outings with the Stripers, the 34-year-old posted a 3.86 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 11 2/3 innings. He made one appearance for the Mets before being designated for assignment, throwing two innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with one strikeout and no walks.
Petersen’s latest stint in the majors comes to a close after pitching on back-to-back nights. He tossed a scoreless inning in Thursday’s finale against the Mets and followed it up with two innings of one-run ball in Friday’s loss to Philadelphia. It marked the first time this season he made multiple appearances during a single call-up, as previous promotions hadn’t even guaranteed him time on the mound.
In total, Petersen has a 4.05 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 6 2/3 innings in four appearances for Atlanta this season.
The move to swap Petersen for Herget gives the Braves a fresh bullpen arm after a heavy workload Friday. Despite the rough start from Bryce Elder—who allowed 10 runs (nine unearned) in just two innings—the bullpen turned in a solid performance, yielding just one run over six frames. The final two runs scored in the ninth were allowed by shortstop Luke Williams, who was pressed into pitching duties, and aren’t considered reflective of the bullpen’s performance.
Atlanta will try to bounce back and even the series Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. EDT.
