Maryland Basketball Secures First Commitment for 2026 Class
Buzz Williams has landed his first commitment for the 2026 recruiting class, marking a significant step for Maryland basketball.
After focusing on rebuilding a depleted roster and securing 2025 commitments since taking over as head coach, Williams has now shifted his attention to future classes. On Monday, he secured a pledge from Austin Brown, a four-star forward from Lufkin, Texas.
The 6-foot-7 forward is ranked as the nation’s 142nd best player overall and the 51st best small forward in the 2026 class. Brown had previously been a target of Williams during his time at Texas A&M, strengthening the connection between the two. Along with Maryland, Brown had offers from Texas A&M, Iowa, Minnesota, and SMU, among others.
