REPORTS: Pitt Zeroes In on High-Profile Wing
The Pitt men’s basketball program is actively seeking top talent from the Class of 2026.
Following his recent official visit, the team has shifted its focus to 4-star wing Ethan Mgbako from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia.
Mgbako has been competing at the DMVHoopsLive event with Nike/Team Melo, and the Pitt coaching staff attended all of his games. Notably, former Pitt star Bub Carrington is part of the Team Melo AAU team.
It’s clear that Pitt head coach Jeff Capel and general manager Jay Kuntz are keen on Mgbako and hope to include him in their Class of 2026. Having already facilitated an official visit last month is a promising sign for their recruitment efforts.
Currently, Mgbako, who stands 6’6″ and weighs 215 pounds, is ranked by 247 Sports as the No. 3 prospect in Virginia and the No. 91 player overall in the Class of 2026. In addition to Pitt, he has received offers from schools like Georgetown, Mississippi State, Creighton, LSU, West Virginia, Florida State, and Texas A&M.
Originally from Somerset, New Jersey, Mgbako played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Roselle Catholic High School before transferring to Oak Hill Academy.
With his size and athleticism, Mgbako can score by driving to the basket, pulling up for mid-range shots, and hitting three-pointers.
