Donovan Mitchell Reacts to Ty Jerome’s Departure from Cleveland Cavaliers
Donovan Mitchell took to Instagram to express his thoughts on Ty Jerome’s departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Jerome, who became a key contributor for the Cavs during the 2024-25 season, is leaving the team after averaging 12.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He shot an impressive 51.6% from the field and 43.9% from three-point range across 70 games.
Now, Jerome is set to join the Memphis Grizzlies, agreeing to a three-year, $28 million contract, with a player option in the third year. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the deal on June 30, noting that Kieran Piller and Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports negotiated the contract.
Following the announcement, Mitchell shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram story, writing, “My brother @tyjerome 💯🤞🏾.”
Jerome had been a pivotal part of the Cavs’ success, helping them finish with the best regular-season record in the Eastern Conference at 64-18. The team swept the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs but was eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in six games.
In the 2024-25 season, Jerome was particularly effective with floaters, shooting 56.9% on 218 attempts, the highest floater percentage of any non-center in the entire league, according to NBA University.
Selected as the 24th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Jerome, 27, has also had stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, and Phoenix Suns during his six-season career.
Jerome recently shared with ESPN Cleveland that the Cavaliers never offered him an opportunity to return, further confirming his decision to leave the team.
