Blues Intensifying Efforts to Land Sabres Star Bowen Byram
The St. Louis Blues are reportedly making a strong push to acquire one of the NHL’s most sought-after trade targets.
Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reported that the Blues are actively working to bring in Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram. Rutherford also mentioned that Byram could be a candidate for an offer sheet, but noted that the Blues are not planning to pursue him in that way.
This isn’t the first time the Blues have been linked to Byram. Just last month, NHL insider Darren Dreger reported that St. Louis was among the teams expressing interest in the Sabres defenseman. This latest report confirms that the Blues’ interest in Byram remains strong.
The push to acquire Byram makes sense for St. Louis. With Nick Leddy and his $4 million cap hit claimed off waivers by the San Jose Sharks, the Blues now have an opening on their blue line and more cap flexibility.
If the Blues manage to land Byram, it would be a major acquisition for the Central Division team. At just 24 years old, Byram is a top-four defenseman with offensive upside and is in the prime of his career. He could be a key long-term piece of the Blues’ defense moving forward. Now, it’s just a matter of whether St. Louis can secure the deal.
