Houston Texans WR Faces Unexpected Allegation

A Houston Texans wide receiver is being hit with a rather unusual accusation as the team prepares for the 2025 NFL season.

The Texans’ receiving corps is set for a major overhaul this year, as the team has added several new faces over the past few months.

In their efforts to revamp the wide receiver group, the Texans left no stone unturned, utilizing trades, free-agent signings, and draft picks to bring in fresh talent. Given how disappointing the offense was last season, it will be interesting to see how these changes shake out.

One of the most notable additions is Christian Kirk, whom the Texans secured in a rare trade with divisional rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although injuries have plagued Kirk in recent years, he had an impressive 2022 campaign, recording 84 receptions, 1,108 yards, and eight touchdowns.

If Kirk can return to that form in 2025, he could create a formidable duo with Nico Collins, making life much easier for quarterback C.J. Stroud. However, could his presence actually hinder the development of rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel?

Joe Summers from House of Houston believes this might be the case, suggesting that Kirk could even “sabotage” the Texans’ efforts to develop their young wide receivers.

“Kirk is slated to start alongside Collins, but he’s also a 28-year-old pending free agent,” Summers pointed out. “While he’s not past his prime, the Texans made Higgins and Noel priorities in the draft, and their growth should be a focus. When Tank Dell returns, Houston could have one of the best receiving corps in the conference.”

Summers argues that Higgins and Noel deserve more opportunities than Kirk, given their potential to be long-term assets.

“If they’re sidelined in favor of Kirk and don’t get enough chances to build chemistry with Stroud, it could set the offense back,” he continued. “And if Kirk moves on after 2025, he won’t be part of the long-term plan anyway. Higgins and Noel have similar skills to Kirk, so why not give them the chance to develop alongside Collins?”

While Higgins and Noel certainly have plenty of promise, it’s important to remember that the Texans are aiming to compete right now. Kirk, as a proven playmaker, will undoubtedly play a key role in 2025.

The Texans should—and likely will—give Kirk ample opportunities to prove himself early in the season. If he can rediscover his past form, the team could become a serious contender.
