The Auburn Tigers added a special teams recruit to the 2026 class
The Auburn Tigers are gaining momentum on the recruiting front, as long snapper prospect Travis Wakefield took to social media on Wednesday to announce his commitment to the program.
Travis Wakefield is making waves as Auburn’s newest special teams addition. According to Kohl’s Professional Camps, he ranks as the No. 7 long snapper in the nation. His recruiting profile also notes that he received offers from other SEC programs, including Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Athletically, Wakefield has impressive measurables—he reportedly ran a 4.67-second 40-yard dash and successfully completed 10 of 12 long snaps, averaging a snap time of 0.68 seconds.
On social media, Wakefield credited former NFL long snapper Matt Overton for helping him develop his technique. Overton, a 2013 Pro Bowler, spent 13 seasons in the NFL.
While major recruiting sites like 247Sports have yet to update Auburn’s 2026 class rankings, Wakefield’s commitment brings the Tigers’ total number of pledges to nine. He becomes the first special teams commit of the cycle.
Last offseason, Auburn added three specialists—freshman punter John McGuire and two transfers: kicker Connor Gibbs from Southern Miss and punter Hudson Kaak from Oklahoma State.
The Tigers have also made recent gains on both sides of the ball. Three-star tight end Kentrell committed on July 4, followed by linebacker Adam Balogoun-Ali, who pledged on Tuesday.
