Top Long Snapper Recruit Commits to Auburn Tigers
Auburn continues to gain momentum in its 2026 recruiting class with the addition of a key special teams player. Long snapper Travis Wakefield announced his commitment to the Tigers on social media Wednesday.
Ranked as the No. 7 long snapper in the country by Kohl’s Professional Camps, Wakefield had offers from other SEC schools, including Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound recruit is known for his impressive skills, including a 4.67-second 40-yard dash and an average snap time of 0.68 seconds. He completed all but two of his 12 total long snaps during evaluations.
Wakefield also shared that he’s honed his craft under the guidance of former NFL long snapper Matt Overton, a 13-year NFL veteran and 2013 Pro Bowler.
Although Auburn’s overall 2026 recruiting class has not yet been updated on major platforms like 247 Sports, this commitment brings the Tigers’ total to nine recruits. Wakefield is the first special teams player in Auburn’s 2026 class.
Auburn made several special teams additions last offseason, bringing in punter John McGuire as a true freshman, along with kicker Connor Gibbs (transferring from Southern Mississippi) and punter Hudson Kaak (transferring from Oklahoma State).
The Tigers have also secured other commitments for the upcoming class, including three-star tight end Kentrell on July 4 and linebacker Adam Balogoun-Ali earlier this week.
