It wouldn’t be surprising if Marcus Spears Jr. becomes one of Duke basketball’s top targets for the 2027 class.

Duke’s interest in the 6-foot-8, 190-pound forward from Dynamic Prep (Texas) isn’t new. Recently, Spears confirmed that the Blue Devils are among his most active suitors, although he hasn’t received an official offer yet from Durham.

The latest sign of Duke’s interest appeared on Thursday in North Augusta, S.C., where Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer was courtside to watch Spears play in the Nike EYBL E16 event.

Spears, the son of former Dallas Cowboys defensive end and current ESPN NFL analyst Marcus Spears, is currently ranked No. 6 overall, No. 2 among power forwards, and No. 2 in Texas on the 247Sports 2027 Composite.

“Marcus Spears Jr…. another 3-and-D prospect in the class,” national basketball insider Samad Hines commented. “He’s got great hands, athleticism, can hit shots, and has the potential to be a walking double-double with his strong rebounding.”

With Scheyer in attendance, Spears and his five-star teammate Ryan Hampton, a small forward ranked No. 2 overall in the 2027 class who has also drawn interest from Duke, led their Drive Nation squad to a 79-64 victory over NW Rotary at the Riverview Activities Center.
